AromaTouch

What is AromaTouch?

AromaTouch is a clinical approach to essential oil application. It is not an aromatherapy massage, hence the name ‘touch’. It uses 8 dōTERRA essential oils, 4 singles and 4 blends, which are layered on top of each other and help to bring harmony and balance.

The treatment also helps to support the immune system allowing the body to heal itself and finishes with an energising boost. The oils are applied to the back, shoulders, neck and soles of the feet resulting in a very relaxing and soothing treatment that takes 45 minutes.

But, this treatment can be done by yourself on yourself. Admitted - it’s not as relaxing as having it done for you, but, it’s the combination of oils that do the hard work. Even by applying them yourself, you will still get the same therapeutic benefits and effects from this amazing collection of oils.

Aroma is an important component of the AromaTouch Technique® because it instantaneously prompts powerful emotional responses. As research has exhibited, activating your olfactory system can direct your mind to specific memories, relax you, and help create a close connection with whomever you are sharing the experience.

What oils are used in the AromaTouch?

The essential oils used in AromaTouch are doTERRA Balance®, Lavender, Tea Tree (Melaleuca), doTERRA On Guard®, AromaTouch®, Deep Blue®, Wild Orange, and Peppermint. As Dr. Hill developed the AromaTouch Technique®, he tried many different combinations of essential oils to create positive benefits and the perfect aromatic profile. These eight oils, as they are layered onto the body, are able to meet both of these important requirements.

Smell is the strongest scent

How many times have you smelt ascent and have it immediately transport you back to a memory of a time when you first encountered this sent?

The perfume of a loved one who is no longer with you? Or maybe a meal on a memorable holiday?

This phenomenon can happen multiple times and often years after the original event. The memory and scent of fused and it’s basic human biology. There is a direct connection between your nose and your brain’s emotional control centre: the limbic system. This is due to the amazing olfactory bulb, a neural structure in the forebrain that sends input to the amygdala. In short, information from your nose goes directly to the limbic system, which controls mood, memory, and emotions.

Your body also contains far more receptors associated with smell (over 1,000) than it does for any other sense. Due to this, you are capable of discerning countless aromas—many of which you may not even be able to describe—with amazing sensitivity and accuracy. Human biology has made the olfactory system the most subtle, yet effective, means to induce specific and distinct responses. This is one of the primary reasons why essential oils can be so powerful in influencing well-being.

Aroma Fun Facts!

Your nose can detect one trillion distinct scents

Scientists used to think that the human nose could only detect about 10,000 different smells, but now with modern equipment, scientists test people’s sense of smell by using different mixtures of odour molecules. The results showed that the nose can smell at least one trillion distinct scents.

Women have a better sense of smell than men

The battle of the sexes rages on, but one category has a clear winner: tests have found that women have a more developed sense of smell than men, and are capable of identifying a greater number of different odours. This is thanks to women’s orbital prefrontal region of the brain, which is more developed than their male counterpart’s.

It’s possible to smell feelings

Amazingly, our sense of smell is so developed it has been discovered that we can smell fear, disgust, happiness and even sexual arousal on other people. A 2012 study found that smell signals exist in our sweat, helping others empathise with us when we’re experiencing certain emotions.

Each human has their own distinct odor

Like fingerprints, every person has their own distinct odour. How we smell is predetermined, and comes from the same genes which determine our body’s tissue type.

Scent cells are renewed every 30 to 60 days

The sense of smell is the only cranial nerve — nerves that emerge from the brain and control bodily functions including eye movement, hearing, taste, and vision.

Dogs have nearly 50% more scent cells than humans

Our canine friends put even the best human nose to shame. With just shy of 49% more scent cells than humans, dogs have a far more developed sense of smell than we do – capable of discerning more subtleties in odour and picking up scents from a greater distance.
